Abstract
Title: Development of the "ARENA" Flexible Digital Game-Based Learning Media Package in Social Studies, Religion, and Culture to Enhance Learning Achievement and Eagerness to Learn of Grade 8 Student-Athletes at Nakhon Nayok Sports School

This mixed-methods research and development study aimed to: 1) develop the "ARENA" flexible digital game-based learning media package to meet quality standards and the 80/80 efficiency criterion; 2) examine the growth and retention of learning achievement and the role of competition-related absence; 3) examine the growth of eagerness to learn; and 4) explain student-athletes learning experiences. Six experts evaluated the package. The target group of 41 Grade 8 student-athletes used it for eight weeks in a one-group repeated-measures design, with a retention test four weeks later. Instruments comprised a two-part achievement test (KR-20 = .88), an eagerness-to-learn measure completed by students, teachers, and sports coaches, in-game learning logs, and interview guides. Data were analyzed using E1/E2 efficiency, linear mixed models, Hedges gav, and thematic analysis.
The findings revealed that: 1) The package comprised four components grounded in the FLEX design principles, met the quality criteria across all nine dimensions (M = 4.20), and achieved an efficiency of 85.41/80.64. 2) Learning achievement rose significantly from 42.76% to 80.64% at the .05 level (gav = 3.32), with 98.17% retention. Each missed period was associated with a 0.54-point smaller gain, whereas every 30 minutes of out-of-class use was associated with a 1.20-point larger gain, thereby offsetting the effect of absence. 3) Eagerness to learn increased continuously and significantly across all three sources (gav = 1.551.92). 4) Immediate feedback, learning while traveling to competitions, and coach monitoring were the key mechanisms. The package offers a model for sustaining student-athletes learning despite competition-related absence.
