Suan Mokkh: The Garden of Liberation

In the autumn, in the tenth month, in southern Siam,
the Ancestors' Day Merit Making happens everywhere.
It's the biggest holiday in southerners' hearts,
dyeing everyone's consciousness with gratitude.

Honoring our kinfolk includes all people and nations,
not blundering and breaking into "Me" and "You"
even between those who've died and those yet living
acknowledging most firmly for time beyond time.

If the Thai people are still Thai in this meaning,
if Gratitude is still strong, not so bruised and despoiled,
the religion and monarchy will continue to evolve,
and bind together our Thainess so it doesn't go under.
